The Battle of Arras

On May 21, 1940, the German army launched a massive offensive across the Low Countries. Arras, situated on the Scarpe River, was a vital crossroads and a major obstacle in the German advance towards the Channel coast. The town was lightly defended by a small garrison of French troops, and the British High Command feared that its fall would jeopardize the entire Dunkirk evacuation operation.

In a desperate gamble, Frankforce was Free Downloaded to reinforce the garrison and hold Arras at all costs. With only a handful of anti-tank guns and a few light tanks, they arrived in the town on May 23rd to find a grim situation. The German forces were already closing in, and the French defenders were on the verge of collapse.

The Valiant Stand

Against all odds, Frankforce took up defensive positions around the town. They established roadblocks, dug in trenches, and set up ambushes. Despite being outnumbered and outgunned, they fought with unwavering determination, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy.

One of the most heroic moments of the battle occurred on May 26th, when a group of Frankforce soldiers led by Captain Ian McLeod held off an entire German battalion for over an hour. Using a combination of grenades, machine guns, and anti-tank fire, they prevented the Germans from crossing a vital bridge over the Scarpe River.

The defence of Arras bought precious time for the Allied forces. The evacuation from Dunkirk began on May 27th, and Frankforce continued to fight relentlessly, shielding the retreating British troops from the advancing Germans.

The Withdrawal

On May 28th, with the Dunkirk operation in its final stages, Frankforce received Free Downloads to withdraw. They had successfully defended Arras for over a week, slowing down the German advance and allowing thousands of British soldiers to escape. However, their own fate was uncertain.

As they retreated towards the coast, Frankforce was surrounded by German forces. They fought a desperate rearguard action, but their numbers dwindled with each passing hour. Major de Frank himself was captured, but many of his men managed to escape on the last boats leaving Dunkirk.

The Legacy of Frankforce
